Reading Time: 3 minutes

“Dad, where do babies come from?”

“Why doesn’t Grandma believe in God?”

“Can men get pregnant? That guy looks pregnant.”

“Does everything die? Even you and Dad?”

“Are you a boy or a girl?”

“Is Santa real?”

Parenting is…complicated. (Uhm. YES.) So I’m doing what I can to make it easier.

See, this thing actually happening. After a long, very circuitous path here, my first book–Permanent Markers: Spiritual Life Skills to Write On Your Kids’ Hearts launches on Tuesday.

I am, y’know, delighted. Terrified. All the feels.

So in case you’re curious, and in gratitude for those of you who follow this blog–here’s a little insider’s guide to some extras.

Free Permanent Markers hands-on devotional

Starting this Monday (10/4) from FamilyLife.com, download a free 7-day hands on Permanent Markers devotional here! If you like this kind of thing, there’s a very similar one here.

Bonus Printable Resources

And right on this very blog, you can click for free bonus resources (most of them printable) to teach most of the life skills in the book! We’re talking identity, prayer, simplicity, community, and a lot more.

(If you lose track of this post, they’re now available on the navigation bar along the top of this website, where you can select a specific life skill.)

For the kind of kids I have–one of my favorite new resources is a poster on 5 Ways to Respectfully Disagree with Authority. Just sayin’.

Take a Listen

Janel Breitenstein

I’ll be on FamilyLife Today’s podcast on Monday, October 4 and Tuesday, October 5, and you can still catch it here after that. (Taping those shows was really fun for me!)

“How Can I Help?”

First–if you could pray for this book’s ministry, I would be so grateful.

Parenting leading up to this book launch has been some of my hardest ever. So I’m kind of in this mindset of me handing Jesus a few loaves of bread and slimy fish and hoping he does something big for himself that I can’t picture yet.

And if somehow you’re totally into this and are feelin’ the super-fan vibes (whoever you are? I love you)–here’s an idea of ways you could help expand this book’s ministry.

Friends, it does take a village to create a book–and those of you who’ve been readers, you’re part of this story. Thank you for praying.

May God make himself known.
