Today, I woke up in Thailand.
My sister and her husband start their day early on behalf of their community, feeding a bunch of kids breakfast so they can grow up strong. The food is cooked by an amazing local Burmese woman with a heart even bigger than her industrial-sized rice cooker.
The kids play and learn in their community center (the other side of my sister’s house) as part of their summer program.
Today, that meant watercoloring with the new sets brought over from America.
Then, it meant celebrating four birthdays that happened while my sister was gone. I love that every child is celebrated here.
Meanwhile, these ladies are creating some stunning jewelry–not to mention a more beautiful future.
So yes: A good day. I love that around the world, God’s people are waking up and, alongside him, making his kingdom come. I have no desire to romanticize community development, which is one of the hardest jobs on the planet. But I also want to revel in the fact that his mercies are new every morning, including all the mornings around the world I can’t see.
