So many of you resonated with my struggle with anger and the ideas I’d collected for this post, and this one on my need to seek forgiveness from my kids. In an effort to keep pressing in to the destruction I cause in my lack of control, I put together this “fridge art”-style poster of “angry” reminders–to hang up inside a cupboard, perhaps, or tape beside the bathroom mirror. (I hope to put mine where my kids can see it–so they can learn, too, but also hold me accountable.) Enjoy–and if you like it, please share it!

Text reads:
“Angry” Reminders
Be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry…
for the anger of man does not bring about the righteousness of God
discipline with consequences, not tone of voice :: Use anger as a scalpel for sin, not a grenade
what is the “log” in my eye?
what is precious to me that feels trampled on right now?
my choices: work it out, get help, or overlook (if i can forgive)
I have an opportunity to grow a relationship, grow to be like Jesus, and replay what he did for me
am I angry for the sake of God’s kingdom, or my own?
step away to get control :: speak the truth in love :: gently restore
it is to a man’s glory to overlook an offense
grace acknowledges the fullness of sin, forgives, then works for holiness
our home thrives not under perfection or fear, but humility and grace
let no corrupting talk come out of your mouth;
only what builds and gives grace for the occasion
our relationship is worth the effort for true peace
never forget how much you’ve been forgiven.
